The RFG's 2003 Freight on Track Campaign supporting our economy - protecting our environment
The Freight on Track campaign was launched by the Rail Freight Group in September 2003 to demonstrate the economic importance as well as the environmental benefits of rail freight to the UK. The campaign was intended to support the Strategic Rail Authority's wider case for rail and those of other organisations such as the CBI and the FTA, working towards sustainable freight transport by making the case for a national rail freight network.
Whilst launched a number of years ago now, the essential aims of the campaign remain relevant :
- To raise awareness and understanding among policy makers, opinion formers and the public of the benefits of freight by rail, both economic and environmental.
- To present the facts about rail freight to underline its importance and to counter prejudice and misinformation.
As part of the campaign, RFG published a series of briefing papers covering different aspects of the case for rail freight:
Paper 1: Freight on Track Rail freight is essential for the UK economy and a vital part of Environmental Policy.
Paper 2: The UK Economy Rail freight is essential for our economy today and vital for our prosperity tomorrow.

Paper 7: The Essential Rail Freight Network Securing a rail freight network for Britain is sensible, credible and deliverable.
